Plasma Pen (Fibroblast) Skin Tightening Therapy

Plasma fibroblast treatment is a non-surgical skin tightening procedure that uses a high-energy discharge to make a small wound in the skin. This encourages cells known as fibroblasts to repair the skin and maintain firmness.

Elegant Image decided to provide Plasma Fibroblast Therapy after reading an article published in the 2014 journal Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology, this report stated that Plasma Fibroblast Therapy can be used to treat a wide range of skin conditions and its effects can be expected to stimulate fibroblast production for up to 1 year after treatment in the areas treated.

This less invasive treatment has a shorter recovery period than surgical options, but its results can be just as dramatic, are typically just as long-lasting and are delivered at a fraction of their cost.

What is Plasma Pen (Fibroblast Skin Tightening) Therapy

Plasma Fibroblast Therapy targets the skin’s fibroblast cells, which synthesize the skin's extracellular matrix cells that include Collagen, elastin and fibrillin fibres in the dermis (the layer of skin just below your outermost skin layer).= And play an important role in helping skin wounds heal as well as maintaining the skin’s firmness and tightness. Elegant Image uses the German PureBeau Fibroblast System to discharge (at the correct distance) a minute high-frequency bolt of plasma just above the target area of the skin. The bolt of plasma creates a micro-injury in the skin’s epidermis to a controlled depth. The thermal disruption, or heat damage, from the bolt of plasma, breaks down proteins in the epidermis and dermis this in turn stimulates fibroblast activity that encourages the regeneration of new skin tissue and the production of elastin fibres that maximises tissue contraction (tightening). The results are rapid and amazing and in many ways, they emulate cosmetic surgery results at a fraction of the cost.

The Procedure

Plasma Fibroblast Treatment is performed using a plasma pen and under topical anesthetic cream. An electrical arc is discharged from the plasma pen without actually touching the skin. At the multiple places on the treated area where the plasma pen is used, the discharge leaves micro craters in the skin which heal in form of dots (see image on the right). The skin around the dots naturally shrinks to heal the micro craters which causes the skin stretching effect.

After about a week the scabs from the dots will fall off revealing multiple pink dots in their stead which will gradually fade over time (see image below). This is no cause to be concerned, and it is the normal recovery process. Skin peels can be used on the treated area to facilitate the fading of the dots, however they are not required as the dots will disappear completely by themselves within one or two months, exact healing times vary from person to person.

Depending on the original skin condition, more than one treatment of Fibroblast may be needed to achieve the desired result. At the initial consultation the Elegant Image therapist will be able to advise on the optimal number of treatments you will need. Most clients will be satisfied after a single treatment, however, up to 3 consecutive treatments may be performed on the same area to achieve very dramatic results even on an aged skin.

Takeaway

Plasma Fibrblast is a less expensive and safer alternative to invasive cosmetic surgeries (such as eye lifts, brow lift or tummy tucks), but it’s just as effective with much less downtime.

It is very effective in treating several skincare issues. You would be a good candidate for this procedure if you are concerned about:

  • Baggy lower eyelids
  • Excessive upper eyelid skin
  • Crows feet
  • Thin lips
  • Sagging jowl and neck skin
  • Scars, including acne scars Stretch marks
  • Loose stomach skin
  • Deep line and wrinkles around the mouth.

It can also be used to remove skin tags, tattoos and improve the appearance of stretch marks and acne scars.

This treatment should not be used on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Plasma Pen Therapy works best on light-medium skin tones. Very dark skin tones sometimes experience hyper-pigmentation (dark spots) or hypo-pigmentation (light spots) following treatment.

Please note: To mitigate any swelling you may experience, on the day of your appointment, we will recommend taking an antihistamine 30 minutes prior to your treatment. You can also continue to take antihistamines for swelling a few days following your treatment.

Although we will apply a numbing cream to the treatment area, during and after the procedure you may feel some heat, which can be uncomfortable and slightly irritating. Immediately after treatment, the area will be red and mildly swollen with some discoloration (tiny brown marks that look like scabs), however results will be immediately visible.  All side effects should subside within 5 -12 days depending on the individual and area treated and the results will also improve over the course of 6 weeks. We will provide you with aftercare instruction to ensure best results. For most people, driving immediately after the treatment is fine. However, if your eye area was treated, it may be best to come with someone that can drive you afterward.

Procedures usually takes 10-40 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.

The results are very similar to cosmetic surgery and should be just as long-lasting. However, like all surgical and cosmetic procedures, the effects of are not 100% permanent. The number of treatments required will vary according to the area being treated, the desired results and the individual’s response to the treatment. Most people only need one treatment, but some may benefit from an additional treatment after 6-8 weeks for maximum results. It is very uncommon to need more than two treatments.

Reasons you may not be suitable for the treatment are due to the following. In which case, we would ask for a specialist’s letter stating that they are happy for you to proceed with the treatment, where applicable: Metal plates or pins Severe circulatory deficiencies inc. ischemic tissue, thrombosis, severe uncontrolled blood pressure Severe Cardiovascular conditions Pacemaker Pregnancy Current or recent hemorrhage Malignancy and chemotherapy in the past 3 years.
